Felicitation Ceremony 2023: Celebrating Sporting Excellence of ITUM participants at Sri Lanka University Games.

A Felicitation ceremony was held for the winners and participants who participated in Sri Lanka University Games (SLUG) 2023 from the University of Moratuwa, representing ITUM on 19th October 2023 at the U1734 mini auditorium on the university premises. This year University of Moratuwa achieved overall 2nd place at SLUG. ITUM showed exceptional commitment and support by sending more than seventy students to represent the University of Moratuwa teams, which was our largest group ever.

The ceremony was graced by the presence of the Director and Heads of divisions, academic members, non-academic staff, and esteemed past NDTians. In SLUG, 1st place was won in Baseball by W.M.G.B. Weerakoon, H.W.D. Dilshan; Taekwondo (68-74kg) by H.A.R. Theekshana; Basketball by P. Manojan; and 2nd place in Cricket by A.D.L.S. Karunanayaka and P.T. Wanigasinghe.

In addition to acknowledging the student accomplishments, ITUM Sports Club presented appreciation awards to Major General (Retd.) S.K. Thirunavukarasu RSP VSV USP the Director of ITUM, DR. (Mrs.) D.D.G.A.D.S.Saparamadu Head of the Division of Interdisciplinary Studies, Ms. J.A.S.D. Bandara the Lecturer in charge of Sports Studies, Mr. Champika Prageeth, Mr. M.S.M. Safraan Mr. Sidath Rasnayake Physical Education Instructors, and supporting staff members.  These awards were in recognition of their invaluable guidance, mentorship, and unwavering support in advancing sports at ITUM. Eng. Kusuminda Bandara and Mr. R.K.R. Chathuranga, both former NDTians were appreciated for their exceptional support in the development of sports, particularly in Elle and Taekwondo.

Recognition and appreciation were also extended to the executive committee members and all sports coordinators of the ITUM Sports Club for their dedicated efforts in achieving these remarkable milestones and for organizing this special event to celebrate the successes of ITUM students.

The achievements of the participants will undoubtedly serve as an inspiration to current and future ITUM students, emphasizing the power of hard work and determination.

As the evening concluded, attendees left with a renewed sense of pride in their institution and a deep appreciation for the athletes' accomplishments. The spirit of excellence continues to thrive at ITUM, uniting the ITUM community in admiration and support for these sporting heroes.
