Institute of Technology, University of Moratuwa (ITUM), proudly hosted its Annual Sports Meet 2025 from May 19th to 22nd, turning the entire institute into a vibrant hub of energy, excitement, and friendly competition. Now in its third successful year, the event was organized by Semester I students of the IS1205 Sports Studies module and served as both an academic project and a dynamic celebration of teamwork, leadership, and athletic excellence.

The journey began on April 19th with a dynamic opening ceremony at the ITUM grounds, setting the stage for spirited competition among four student teams Horus, Phoenix, Griffin, and Draghar. Over the course of four thrilling days, athletes competed across a range of events, including Netball, Badminton, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Football, Cricket, and Track & Field. For the first time in university sports meet history, a volunteer team from ITUM Sports Club and the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka joined hands to ensure the smooth execution of the event.

The closing ceremony, held on May 22nd at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium, brought the event to a grand and memorable conclusion. It was graced by several esteemed guests, including Mr. Niluka Karunaratne OLY, Senior Olympic Badminton Player and Chairman of the Athletes’ Commission of the National Olympic Committee, who attended as the Chief Guest. A special note of appreciation goes to the main sponsor, Bank of Ceylon, whose generous support was instrumental in the success of the event and is sincerely valued by the ITUM community.

The success of the event would not have been possible without the dedicated leadership of Ms. Shalini Dissanayake, Lecturer in charge of the Sports Studies module and Chairperson of the Academic Committee for the Sports Meet. She was strongly supported by a committed team of academic staff and physical education instructors. Their efforts were guided by Major General (Rtd.) S. K. Saparamadu, Head of the Division of Interdisciplinary Studies, whose encouragement and vision helped bring the entire event together.
